Somewhat to my shame, I can still remember what my French teacher once wrote in my yearly school report, – “Alex has learnt nothing this year…” This lack of bilingual accomplishment was probably due to the belief that us British chaps only need to raise our voices to johnny foreigner and he’ll then miraculously be able to understand us.
Rather more keen to learn a foreign language, are personnel from the Ukrainian Navy. For them, language skills open up new opportunities to participate in international activities and engenders better communication between foreign navies.
Courses are run by Canadian instructors, at the Military Academy in Odesa.
