Introducing (cue fanfare), first in my new series of videos detailing Russia’s military bases inside Ukraine. By covering them all, the aim is to give an insight into Russia’s invasion planning. With most in 2016/17 having replaced their tented base facilities with an impressive array of permanent buildings, it tells us Russia fully intended its forces in Ukraine would be staying put.
Situated in Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast (province), this first video covers the large base outside village of Svobodne. Located near Ukraine’s southern coastline and close to the Russian border, it acts as a vital area hub for Russian units entering and exiting Ukraine.
With materials and prefab buildings all having come from Russia, the satellite images also give us an insight in the vast amounts of money Russian tax payers are shelling out for Putin’s ill-fated invasion of Ukraine.
