Yesterday, Heiko Maas was in Ukraine. Spoke to President Poroshenko and also flew out to the front line city of Mariupol. To get a feel for everyday life for those living on the conflict line, he talked with citizens and OSCE monitors.

Said “The peace plan is in dire need of progress. Germany is on the side of Ukraine and we continue to support reforms.”

Maas said he has called for another Normandy Format meeting on June 11th. These involve foreign ministers of Ukraine, France, Germany & Russia, and have thus far achieved absolutely NOTHING, other than yet another agreed ceasefire which Russian occupation forces break after 1 day. Having said that, it’s good that more senior foreign politicians are visiting the conflict area and seeing first hand the misery Russia’s war is causing.
