This week Canadian and US medical delegations participated in medical evacuation training. Focus on preparations should a high number of military be wounded and a readiness for different scenarios thrown up by the conflict.
Particular attention was paid to training of drivers and medic teams of both civilian and military ambulances. Training also included the involvement of air craft and helicopters in the evacuation process. Because of the danger from Russian anti-aircraft systems, all Ukrainian wounded have to be driven out of the immediate conflict zone to mobile military hospitals, with army medics also making use of converted armoured personnel carriers. Helicopters and planes are used to transfer wounded to larger hospitals away from the front line.
Recently the US provided a number of military ambulances to the Ukrainian army.
