Safe to say after 4 years, it’s hard to drum up much optimism for these now routinely agreed ceasefires. But as I keep saying, we live in hope they last, or rather those living on the front line do.
Aug 29th saw the start of a “school ceasefire.” Its laudable aim is to make it safer for children going back to school after the summer holiday. Over the last 24 hours, Ukrainian military report a welcome reduction in Russia’s firing attacks. Only a total of 18 launched, with one using heavy weapons. No Ukrainian casualties reported.
However (there’s always a “however), as the Ukraine Crisis graphic below shows, all these ceasefire agreements soon go by the way side, with Putin’s forces once again resuming their routine shelling of Ukrainian territory.
Aug 13th – 26th.
Russia’s forces launched 470 firing attacks.
Killed 11 Ukrainian soldiers and wounded 34.
